Use the simple present for actions and states that can take place in the past, present and future.

  1. Facts that are always true

  2. Habits and repeated actions
    Every morning, Ellie gets up at 6.00 a.m.

Affirmative form Negative form Question form

All Other Verbs
Affirmative form Negative form Question form
I / You work do not work Do I / you work?
He / She / It works does not work Does he / she / it work?
We / You / They work do not work Do we / you / they work?
Third-Person Singular Spelling Changes
does / goes Verbs ending in –o: add –es.
watches / misses Verbs ending in an s-like sound (–ss, –x, –z, –sh, –ch): add –es.
studies Verbs ending in –y preceded by a consonant: change –y to –ies.
has The verb have is irregular in the third-person singular.
